Reach Out and Read

Reach Out and Read

Doctors and nurses know that growing up healthy means growing up with books. Reach Out and Read (ROR), a nationwide nonprofit early literacy program, makes it possible for medical providers to give over 6 million books new books to American children in need at regular pediatric checkups. Doctors are also encouraged to talk to parents about the importance of reading aloud to their children. Families served by Reach Out and Read read together more often, and their children score higher on vocabulary tests and school readiness assessments.

This new state-of-the-art birthing center at St. Vincent's Hospital, named after Eli Manning and his wife Abby, will focus on natural childbirth and holistic care. The Birthing Center will build upon St. Vincent's strong tradition of midwifery, connecting the science and compassion that is the hospital's hallmark with a nurturing environment. The Mannings are determined to make it a special place to bring new life into the world.

Every day thousands of Mississippi children and their families must deal with the harsh reality of illness and injury. At the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children, staff members work hard to overcome these obstacles. A critical component of health care delivery for more than 75,000 of these children is the state-of-the-art, 15,600 square foot Eli Manning Children's Clinics. Pediatricians work alongside pediatric specialists in the clinics, which offer services including well-child visits, a vaccination program and acute care in orthopedics, cardiology and endocrinology.
